Queridos estudiantes,

Es un placer daros la bienvenida a este apasionante tema del Máster en Neuroinmunología, dedicado al tratamiento de la esclerosis múltiple (EM), una de las áreas más activas y en constante evolución de la neurología moderna.

A lo largo de este módulo, exploraremos las diferentes estrategias terapéuticas para el manejo de la enfermedad, comenzando por el tratamiento modificador de la EM en sus formas remitente-recurrente y progresiva secundaria. Nos basaremos en la evidencia más reciente, procedente de ensayos clínicos, para establecer recomendaciones fundamentadas, pero también profundizaremos en cómo trasladar este conocimiento a la práctica clínica diaria. Abordaremos cuestiones esenciales como la optimización del tratamiento o la evaluación de la respuesta terapéutica. Además, en este contexto, prestaremos especial atención a aspectos clave que condicionan o acompañan al tratamiento: el deseo gestacional, la minimización de riesgos asociados a los fármacos, las estrategias personalizadas que permiten adaptar el tratamiento a las circunstancias de cada paciente y otros aspectos relevantes que condicionan las decisiones terapéuticas en pacientes con esclerosis múltiple.

Os animo a afrontar este tema con una actitud crítica, compromiso clínico y entusiasmo por aprender. El conocimiento adquirido será clave para enfrentar con solvencia los retos terapéuticos de la esclerosis múltiple y para acompañar mejor a las personas que viven con esta enfermedad.

Dear Students,

It is a pleasure to welcome you to this exciting topic of the Master’s Degree in Neuroimmunology, dedicated to the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS), one of the most active and constantly evolving areas of modern neurology.

Throughout this module, we will explore the different therapeutic strategies for the management of the disease, starting with the modifying treatment of MS in its relapsing-remitting and secondary progressive forms. We will draw on the latest evidence, from clinical trials, to make informed recommendations, but we will also delve into how to translate this knowledge into everyday clinical practice. We will address essential issues such as the optimization of treatment or the evaluation of therapeutic response. In addition, in this context, we will pay special attention to key aspects that condition or accompany treatment: gestational desire, minimisation of risks associated with drugs, personalised strategies that allow treatment to be adapted to the circumstances of each patient and other relevant aspects that condition therapeutic decisions in patients with multiple sclerosis.

I encourage you to approach this issue with a critical attitude, clinical commitment and enthusiasm for learning. The knowledge acquired will be key to facing the therapeutic challenges of multiple sclerosis with solvency and to better accompany people living with this disease.
